MATILIJA MIDDLE SCHOOL – SOLAR CANOPY INSTALLATION

The Matilija Middle School Solar Canopy project involved installation of a photovoltaic canopy system constructed above the football field bleacher area at the Ojai Unified School District campus in Ojai, California. Developed as part of the district’s renewable energy and campus infrastructure initiatives, the project provided on-site solar generation while also creating covered spectator space for athletic events and school activities. The work was performed within an active school campus environment requiring coordination with campus operations, athletic facilities, and ongoing student activities throughout construction.

TAFT Electric’s scope included installation and integration of electrical infrastructure supporting the photovoltaic canopy system, including conduit pathways, power distribution infrastructure, inverter connections, and coordination with the campus electrical systems. Work included electrical support for the solar array systems mounted above the bleacher structures, along with associated electrical equipment and interconnection infrastructure required for campus power integration. Additional scope included underground raceway systems, equipment connections, and coordination of electrical systems within the occupied campus environment.

Construction activities were phased around active school and athletic operations while maintaining safe campus access and minimizing disruptions to school activities. The completed solar canopy system provides renewable energy generation, improved spectator coverage, and upgraded campus infrastructure supporting the district’s long-term sustainability and energy efficiency goals.
