The DFS Duty Free Retail Concourse project at the Tom Bradley International Terminal (TBIT) at Los Angeles International Airport involved the large-scale electrical and low-voltage buildout of the terminal’s primary international luxury retail and duty-free shopping environment. Performed within an active international airport terminal, the project required extensive coordination with Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA), terminal operations, security personnel, adjacent tenants, and multiple luxury retail brands while maintaining uninterrupted airport and passenger operations throughout all phases of construction.
The electrical scope included complete power distribution infrastructure throughout the retail concourse, including new branch circuitry, panelboard connections, feeder extensions, concealed conduit systems, and coordinated integration into the terminal’s existing electrical systems. The project incorporated extensive architectural and specialty lighting installations consisting of decorative feature lighting, illuminated retail shelving, display case lighting, cove lighting, accent illumination, and programmable lighting control systems designed to support multiple luxury retail environments throughout the concourse. Electrical systems were installed to support evolving tenant retail layouts while maintaining flexibility for future retail modifications and seasonal merchandising updates.
Comprehensive low-voltage infrastructure was installed throughout the retail environment supporting point-of-sale systems, digital signage, audiovisual systems, data and communications networks, security integration, and coordinated interfaces with terminal life-safety systems. The project also required detailed coordination of underground and above-ceiling pathway systems within the highly congested terminal infrastructure environment. Construction activities were executed in carefully phased sequences, including overnight work and operational shutdown coordination, to minimize impacts to airport operations, passenger circulation, and adjacent retail tenants.
The completed DFS Duty Free concourse delivers a highly integrated luxury retail environment supported by advanced electrical, lighting, and technology systems consistent with the operational, architectural, and passenger experience standards of one of the nation’s premier international airport terminals.
