COMPTON HIGH SCHOOL

The 33-acre Compton High School campus redevelopment project consisted of a complete ground-up educational facility buildout delivered over a 33-month construction schedule utilizing more than 100,000 IBEW Local 11 manhours with a peak workforce exceeding 50 electricians. The modern campus includes multiple interconnected facilities designed to support advanced academic, athletic, performing arts, and career technical education programs. Major campus components include a new academic building, gymnasium, pool facility, football stadium with visitor and press facilities, tennis courts, outdoor basketball courts, three parking lots, and the state-of-the-art “Dr. Dre” Performing Arts Center. Extensive site infrastructure improvements included a new 1,200A 4160V medium-voltage utility service from Southern California Edison, campus-wide medium-voltage switchgear and distribution systems, more than six miles of underground conduit infrastructure, and over 300 architectural, site, and sports lighting fixtures integrated throughout the campus.

The project incorporated highly advanced electrical, lighting, audiovisual, and technology systems across all campus facilities. The gymnasium and pool complex features high-bay athletic lighting, digitally controlled wireless scoreboards, retractable power-operated basketball systems and bleachers, advanced pool filtration infrastructure, and comprehensive nLight lighting controls. The 140,639-square-foot academic building includes smart classrooms with interactive displays, STEM labs with controlled fume hood systems, professional-grade culinary facilities with automated fire suppression and hood controls, architectural accent lighting, and campus-wide intelligent lighting control systems. The 40,868-square-foot “Dr. Dre” Performing Arts Center serves as a premier entertainment and education venue featuring a professional-grade amphitheater, advanced theatrical lighting and rigging systems with wireless touchscreen controls, recording studios, audiovisual production labs, dance studios, video production classrooms, and dedicated costume and prop facilities. Additional campus features include Musco sports lighting systems with wireless controls for the football stadium, integrated wireless communications for scoreboard systems, and exterior digital signage, resulting in a highly advanced educational campus designed to support modern learning, athletics, and performing arts programs.
