AMERICAN AIRLINES MAINTENANCE HANGAR – ELECTRICAL INFRASTRUCTURE UPGRADES

The American Airlines Maintenance Hangar Electrical Infrastructure Upgrade project involved comprehensive electrical system improvements within an approximately 250,000-square-foot active aircraft maintenance facility located at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). Performed within a fully operational aviation environment, the project required detailed coordination, phased execution, and continuous operational support to ensure uninterrupted aircraft maintenance activities throughout construction. Working alongside Premier Interior Development, the scope included major electrical distribution upgrades, aircraft power infrastructure relocation, employee support system modifications, and fire alarm infrastructure improvements, all completed within the strict operational and security requirements of a live airport maintenance facility.

The project included the installation of new panelboards and transformers integrated into the existing electrical distribution system, along with the reconfiguration of branch and feeder circuits to support evolving operational demands within the hangar. Extensive planning and load balancing measures were implemented to maintain system continuity and minimize operational disruptions during construction activities. A significant portion of the work involved the demolition, relocation, and reconfiguration of existing 480V aircraft power distribution systems, requiring temporary power coordination and phased installations to maintain uninterrupted support for aircraft repair operations. Additional infrastructure upgrades included new dedicated power systems for employee support areas, relocation and installation of employee time clocks, expanded conduit and pathway systems for power and data distribution, and complete electrical support for newly constructed tank rooms including lighting, power, and communications systems.

The project also included fire alarm system infrastructure improvements consisting of new conduit pathways, dedicated power systems, and coordination with the fire alarm vendor to support upgraded life-safety systems throughout the facility. All work was executed within the complex constraints of an active aviation environment, requiring strict adherence to airport operational procedures, safety standards, and aviation facility compliance requirements while maintaining ongoing maintenance operations inside one of the busiest airport environments in the country.
