SMMUSD MALIBU HIGH SCHOOL

The 6.14-acre campus expansion project included the construction of a new 72,000-square-foot high school academic building and supporting site infrastructure, delivered over a 21-month duration with approximately 67,000 IBEW Local 11 manhours and a peak workforce exceeding 50 electricians. The two-story interconnected North and South buildings were fully built out to support modern project-based learning and include general classrooms, STEM labs, visual arts, special education spaces, a library, administrative offices, and a full campus food service with kitchen and cafeteria. The project integrated extensive site work, including new utilities, BIM-coordinated underground infrastructure, architectural and landscape lighting, expanded parking with EV charging, a digital marquee, guard house, and on-site wastewater treatment, all set within an architecturally significant site overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Interior systems feature exposed architectural utilities, smart classrooms with advanced A/V, comprehensive low-voltage and life-safety systems, high-end lighting controls, emergency power, radiant heating and cooling embedded in concrete slabs, and infrastructure to support a future 360kW rooftop photovoltaic system, resulting in a highly integrated, technology-forward academic environment.
